KS3 & 4 Transition: Becoming an 11-16 School

- This course is targeted at D&T teachers in schools, such as those in Leicestershire, who are changing from being a KS3 intake school to being an 11-16 school (or a 14-19 upper school who are extending their intake to include KS3)
- Big picture of the issues a D&T department needs to consider when making this transition
- An overview of the curriculum changes at KS3, KS4 and KS5 with ideas on creating a 5 or 7 year cohesive curriculum plan
- Developing a curriculum that embeds progression, creativity and which embeds good learning habits (including using Bloom’s Taxonomy effectively)
- Approaches to managing Non Exam Assessment. Note this focuses on methods of delivery, organising a course, & teaching strategies that maximise progression. Examples will be given but not across all material areas & there will be no detailed moderation of work.
- Project ideas and teaching strategies
- This course is targeted at all D&T teachers & does not focus on any one materials area. It is aims to be an overview of the priorities of a department along with ideas on ways of moving forward. Although it will feature some examples of work it will not include examples across all material areas. It will not focus on any one exam board nor will there be any moderation of work.
- Some of the content of this course may also be relevant to share with other subject areas when you return to school
- The course will include a free teaching and learning resource pack to take away with you
