Content

  • A brief overview of learning in the D&T GCSE (England). Note that reference is made to the NEA but the main focus will be on the core content related to the exam.
  • Identifying core content learning that textiles specialist may feel less familiar with.
  • Ideas for activities that are creative and which help bring the core content to life helping to make it relevant to textiles.
  • A range of learning content will be covered during the day but in particular this course will focus on areas of the core content textiles teachers have said they feel less confident in delivering e.g. non textiles materials, levers & mechanisms (content isn't targeted at any single exam board and is suitable for all specifications).
  • An approach that celebrates the traditional creativity and uniqueness of textiles whilst still embracing new ideas and a broader materials approach to D&T.
  • Reinvigorate your teaching & create a buzz about textiles in the D&T GCSE.
  • Challenge perceptions and stereotypes about what textiles is and use the D&T GCSE to strengthen the position of textiles and to raise its profile.
  • The courses encourages you to think differently & to challenge & reflect on how you currently do things.
  • The course is suitable for textiles teachers and assumes some basic textiles knowledge. It is particularly suitable for anyone who wants to embrace the D&T GCSE but who feels less confident in some of the areas of the core content. Some of the content will be also be relevant to the D&T GCSE qualification in general and many resources will be of use to your whole department.

Note

  • As every D&T department is different the course doesn’t provide an an off the shelf ‘one size fits all’ scheme of learning. Instead the course gives participants tools and ideas to develop a personalised approach to the curriculum.
  • There isn't time to cover every aspect of the core content and the aim is to show a broader overview of how it's possible for textiles to remain strong at GCSE level, embracing elements of both traditional textiles as well as newer ideas.
