A Level Product Design Textiles Exhibition

These photos are from the A level Product Design Textiles exhibition by Gina Williams and her AS and A2 students. There is some superb work that proves just how creative you can be with this qualification. The way the work is displayed is also excellent and has the qualities of a degree show exhibition. Students dressed their own boards and supervised the exhibition. Feedback sheets were also included as part of the display and these were then used in the final evaluation in the design folder which is a lovely touch.

Year 9 T.Shirts

I love this t.shirt project with a difference from year 9 students that Gina Williams teaches. Students were given a white t.shirt (Asda pack of 3 t.shirts for £3) which they then had to personalise. Students investigated tie and dye, sublimation printing and other printing techniques and then developed their own designs. The project was a 5 week mini project so time was tight but the results are great and Gina says the boys in particular loved doing the project. I particularly like how students have adapted the shape of the t.shirts and how some students have created scarves.

KS3 Pyjama Shorts

This year 9 pyjama shorts project has been designed by Gina Williams. The shorts are lovely; really well made with a quality finish.

The aim of the project was to create a fashionable, functional product using a range of construction techniques. Pupils focus on developing patterns, using overlockers and machines, sewing hems and seams, and learning how to do an elasticated waistline. They the project in 7 weeks (3 hours every 2 weeks). Gina drafted the pattern herself and students alter the block as required.

As an extension task some students made a small drawstring bag to put the shorts into.

Students do design work in a similar format to GCSE and below are some example pages from student workbooks.
