This resource consists of 4 sets of cards which can be used separately or together. They can be used for short activities or as a longer lesson activity. They can be used to generate discussion and mind mapping activities, or as a prompt for designing.

The cards can be printed off and cut up using the guides on the side of the page. 

Users
  • 20 cards with images of different people that a designer might design for. All cards have the same question as a thinking prompt and additional questions are included in the supporting notes. Each card is approximately the size of a business card with 10 being presented on an A4 page ready to be cut up after printing. These cards could be used on their own or in combination with other cards in the resource. 
  • Context cards20 cards with different contexts for real world design problems which might impact on one person or a larger group. As well as the main heading there are 5 sub headings on the card which act as additional thinking prompts. In addition there are extra questions in the supporting notes. Each card is approximately the size of a business card with 10 being presented on an A4 page ready to be cut up after printing. These cards could be used on their own or in combination with other cards in the resource. 
  • 20 cards with different products used by a range of users. All cards have the same Products question as a thinking prompt and additional questions are included in the supporting notes. Each card is approximately the size of a A5 size with 2 cards being presented on an A4 page ready to be cut up after printing. These cards could be used on their own or in combination with other cards in the resource. 
  • The Analysis card is a single card approximately the size of a business card. It has a number of thinking prompts linked back to many of the questions listed in the supporting notes. It can be used with just one set of cards from the resource or with all of them at the same time.

  • This resource is designed for use with students at KS3, 4 and 5 in Design & Technology, although it may be relevant for use with other age groups and within other contexts.
  • The resource aims to support students to develop skills and knowledge related to designing for real people in real situations. In particular the resource may be useful to help students develop skills in preparation for the Non Exam Assessment in Design & Technology.
