Boys Will be Boys: Raising the Achievement of Boys in D&T

  • Tried & tested tips & strategies that engage learners boys at all levels
  • Background on research about how boys think & learn and how this can help you in your classroom
  • Learn about how boys think, and use this to get them motivated
  • Develop strategies that break down barriers to boys progressing & achieving
  • Hands on experience of various strategies specific to D&T e.g. Speed Designing (a strategy developed by Julie Boyd that is very successful at increasing pace & creativity, & which is proven to raise the achievement of boys) 
  • Practical and easy applications of Bloom’s Taxonomy to help boys develop higher level thinking skills
  • Developing schemes of learning that work towards the strengths of boys in the classroom 
  • Reflecting on behaviour management of boys & how simple changes can improve teacher and student interactions
  • Developing male role models & rewards & incentives boys value in order to make achievement ‘cool'
  • Relevant to KS3, 4 and 5 and will provide you with resources and ideas that will impact on teaching and learning in your classroom immediately. 
  • The course will include a free teaching and learning resources pack to take away with you 
  • During her career Julie has done a lot of informal action research on how boys learn and what engages them.
