What is a Roadshow?

Our Roadshow events are more like a mini conference than a traditional course. They are a fabulous fun days out where you will get the chance to learn and play at the same time. The aim is to bring together enthusiastic D&T teachers to share ideas and to have the opportunity to do D&T hands on activities that teachers often don’t get time to do in school. The course is also a low cost event with the aim of supporting teachers whose schools have a limited budget or who are funding themselves.

D&T Teacher Roadshow

The D&T Teacher Roadshow is the new kid on the block with the first one taking place in London on 14th July 2018. Although this day will have a slightly different approach to the Textiles Teacher Roadshow it will have a similar focus on hands on activities and bringing teachers, technicians and trainees together to celebrate D&T. It will focus on the broader materials aspects of the new D&T GCSE, and will include a broad range of materials and activities so is suitable for any material specialist.

The Textiles Teacher Roadshow is where it all started with just a focus on textiles. Over  time, however, this has developed to embrace the broader material approach for the D&T GCSE. The day still very much focuses on textiles, and much of the content shows how the D&T GCSE can be taught through textiles and how non textiles materials can be used in an exciting, creative and ‘textilesy’ way. Although the focus is on D&T textiles the day may also be of interest to anyone teaching art textiles or other textiles based qualifications. The day is aimed at textiles specialists but is also suitable for non specialists who are interested in finding more out about textiles.

More about the day

  • Each year the theme for each Roadshow changes and it travels to a number of venues across the country. Although there may be some links between the D&T Teacher Roadshow and The Textiles Teacher Roadshow the content for both will be different so delegates would benefit from attending both.
Roadshow
  • The course is different to our other events as there are around 30 - 40 places depending on the venue compared to the usual 3 - 12 delegates for most of our other courses. Our smaller courses aim for a more personalised approach, and whilst the Roadshow offers less of this, what it offers instead is the chance to network more, share ideas and celebrate being part of the D&T community.
