What is The D&T Teacher Roadshow?

The roadshow brings together D&T teachers, trainees, teaching assistants and technicians to celebrate all things D&T. It’s more like a mini conference than a traditional course and is a fabulous fun day out where you will get the chance to learn and play at the same time. The aim is to bring together enthusiastic D&T teachers to share ideas and to have the opportunity to do D&T hands on activities that teachers often don’t get time to do in school. The course is also a low cost event with the aim of supporting teachers whose schools have a limited budget or who are funding themselves. The day is led by Julie and Paul Boyd and, depending on the venue, teachers from the host school may also deliver some content.

Is this the same as The Textiles Teacher Roadshow?

The Textiles Teacher Roadshow is the original Roadshow and the D&T one is the new kid on the block, with the first one taking place in London on 14th July 2018. The format is inspired by the original Roadshow, but the content will be different so delegates may benefit from attending both. It will focus on the broader materials aspects of the new D&T GCSE, and will include a broad range of materials and activities suitable for any material specialist (including textiles).

What will the content be for the first D&T Teacher Roadshow?

The content of the first Roadshow is still being developed but here’s a few insights into the day:

  • Lots of hands on creative activities, including experimental work and projects
  • A focus on the D&T GCSE, including something for a range of material areas
  • Updates on D&T in the new GCSE and A level
  • A chance to ask questions and to network with other teachers
  • Prizes and freebies!
  • Timings of the day are 10.30am start (with arrival from 10.10am) and 3.15pm official finish (with until 3.45pm for anyone who wants to hang around for any individual questions)
  • Note that tea & coffee are provided but delegates must bring their own lunch and additional refreshments

Who can attend the D&T Teacher Roadshow?

Anyone who is based in a school working with young people including teachers, technicians, teaching assistants and trainees. The content will be relevant to a range of material area specialists and is suitable for both D&T specialists as well as non specialists. The day will still include textiles content even though there is a separate textiles Roadshow.

When are the next D&T Teacher Roadshows & how do I book a place?

What do delegates say about The Roadshow?

It was great - the message about multi materials was strong and inspiring.

Absolutely fantastic course, enjoyed it all and am brimming with ideas. Excited rather than concerned about delivering the materials content.

Really informative and fun. Great couple, full of inspiration and relevant ideas.

Amazing course. Love the short, sharp tasks and time to play. Loved the applying of other materials outside my experience too.

It was such a brilliant day and I’m going away feeling inspired. A really well organised day.

Really great price considering the time, materials, content and inspiration.

Exceeded my expectations. I’m buzzing with ideas to take back to my school. I’ve had a fantastic day!

The underlying message of positivity was encouraging.

We have Lead Facilitator accreditation as part of the National STEM Learning Centre CPD Quality Mark
