General information about The D&T Roadshows

  • The D&T Roadshows are our largest events and are more of a mini conference than a course with the aim of bringing D&T teachers together to celebrate D&T with the chance to learn, play and network at the same time. Tickets £80 (includes VAT).
D&T Roadshow
  • The D&T Roadshows are a low cost event with the aim of supporting teachers whose schools have a limited budget or who are funding themselves. The course is usually on a Saturday because of the need to access several D&T spaces to accommodate the number of delegates.
  • The events are led by Paul and Julie Boyd who between them have extensive experience in education and in industry.
  • The day has an informal relaxed atmosphere with a ‘light touch’ approach that focuses on hands on activities that teach theory through practical work.
  • As well as being packed with practical activities there is also a small display of ideas & inspiration.
D&T Roadshow copy
  • All D&T Roadshows include materials to carry out the practical activities as well as supporting electronic resources. There are also prizes, small giveaways & goodie bags to take home.
  • Timings for all D&T Roadshows are from 10.30am - 3.15pm.
  • The day is suitable for anyone who is based in a school working with young people in D&T including teachers, technicians, teaching assistants and trainees.
  • Note that tea & coffee are provided but delegates must bring their own lunch and additional refreshments.
  • The course travels around the country with new content for each academic year.
  • Note that the D&T Roadshow is a different event to the D&T Roadshow Plus. Whilst there are some similarities and cross overs these are different types of events with different content so it is relevant for delegates to attend both events.
  • Some Roadshows focus on all D&T material areas and some focus just on textiles (but these are also suitable for non specialists). There is an additional textiles one as the Roadshow started out as a textiles event and it already has a big following.
  • Full details of the specific content for both the all materials event, as well as the textiles one, is listed below.

  • These Roadshow dates focus on textiles although the content is also relevant to non specialists, and will also include other D&T materials. The Roadshow started out with a textiles focus, and this is now a well established event with lots of regular followers, which is why a Roadshow with a textiles focus will continue alongside the newer all materials event. It will be relevant for delegates to attend both events, as whilst there might be some cross over, the overall content will be different.
  • Read the general information at the top of the page about the Roadshow; below is information on the specific content for the textiles focused Roadshow dates.
Textiles Roadshow
  • The day will focus on teaching theory through practical activities. In particular the content will cover core learning from the GCSE specs linked to metals. This content will also be relevant for delivery at KS3.
  • Teachers will do a range of activities where they will handle and use metals to design and make with. Activities will be approached from a textiles perspective helping teachers approach the core content for metals in a creative way that will engage students with a passion for textiles. The content and approach will be different to content previously covered for metals in past Roadshows.
  • All activities will be available for all delegates to do but individuals will have the chance to focus on those that are of particular interest and relevance to them.
  • Materials for all activities are included in the ticket price.
  • Delegates will also have the opportunity to win prizes related to activities carried out during the day.

The video below shows a previous Roadshow that had a textiles specific focus. Note the day will not be the same as this but it will give you a general overview of the day.

What do delegates say about The D&T Roadshow?

It was great - the message about multi materials was strong and inspiring.

Absolutely fantastic course, enjoyed it all and am brimming with ideas. Excited rather than concerned about delivering the materials content.

Amazing course. Love the short, sharp tasks and time to play. Loved the applying of other materials outside my experience too.

It was such a brilliant day and I’m going away feeling inspired. A really well organised day.

Really great price considering the time, materials, content and inspiration.

Exceeded my expectations. I’m buzzing with ideas to take back to my school. I’ve had a fantastic day!

The underlying message of positivity was encouraging.

[attended] as a nervous RM 'specialist' trying to get some inspiration for delivering the Textiles content of the new spec. I'm now absolutely buzzing! Well resourced and very, very useful, I'm very glad I went. If you get the chance to attend - do.

A great low cost informative course with plenty of ideas to take back to school.

It was more relevant to me as a non specialist Product Design teacher than I expected.

Lots of ideas and opportunity to actually use them.

Really fantastic to have an affordable course on a Saturday.

Great combination of workshops. Fantastic affordable course.

Made me feel more confident with those pesky bits of the curriculum! So many links and ways to combine materials. I was worried about levers and mechanisms but now I have textiles equipment examples which will help me explain things.

Roadshow ticket price

The Roadshow started off as a small event local to where we live but over the years it has grown way beyond our expectations with events running nationally. The cost has remained the same for nearly 7 years but it is no longer cost effective to run it for this price, particularly given the practical nature of the course. The increase in price not only enables us to continue running the events but it also allows us to roll out new venues, including those that might attract lower numbers in less accessible areas. The new £80 price is based on feedback from past delegates who were asked to identify a fee they felt was a fair reflection of the content, whilst still be affordable for schools with a low budget or for delegates who want to pay for themselves.

Thank you to companies who sponsor the D&T Roadshow

A huge thank you to the sponsors of our D&T Roadshows who make it possible for us to offer low cost CPD with all the quality of a full cost course.

What’s the difference between a D&T Roadshow & a D&T Roadshow Plus?

Whilst there are some similarities and cross overs between the D&T Roadshow and the D&T Roadshow Plus they are different types of events and the content will be different so it is relevant for delegates to attend both events. Find out more about D&T Roadshow Plus events.

We have Lead Facilitator accreditation as part of the National STEM Learning Centre CPD Quality Mark
