What is The Textiles Teacher Roadshow?

See photos and find out more about past Roadshows

The roadshow brings together textiles teachers, trainees, teaching assistants and technicians. It takes place in several venues across the country, including Nottingham, London and Dorset. The day is led by Julie and Paul Boyd and, depending on the venue, teachers from the host school may also deliver some content.

5

The aim of the day is to share ideas, and create an inspirational buzz about teaching an exciting 21st Century curriculum. The day is more of an event than a course, with lots to see and do as well as lots of freebies to take away. The cost of the day is a fraction of a normal one day course with the chance to get a taste of the exciting things happening in textiles education.

Most of our courses are very small with up to 8 delegates but this event is one of the exceptions with from 30 - 45 places depending on the venue. Although the larger numbers mean this is a less personalised event than the smaller courses we run, there is just as much to learn, and there's a real buzz in the air, as well the chance to network with a large number of teachers from across the country.

  • A chance to ask questions and to network with other teachers

Who can attend the Textiles Teacher Roadshow?

Anyone! The day is targeted at D&T textiles teachers but it may also be of interest to art textiles teachers and those doing the Fashion & Textiles Tech Award and lots of these teachers have attended in the past. The day is also suitable for non specialists who want to find out a bit more about textiles in the GCSE. Technicians and trainees teachers are also welcome.

What delegates say about The Textiles Teacher Roadshow

Excellent pace, variety of activities, friendly environment and access to expertise

[attended] as a nervous RM 'specialist' trying to get some inspiration for delivering the Textiles content of the new spec. I'm now absolutely buzzing! Well resourced and very, very useful, I'm very glad I went. If you get the chance to attend - do.

A great low cost informative course with plenty of ideas to take back to school

It was more relevant to me as a non specialist Product Design teacher than I expected.

Lots of ideas and opportunity to actually use them

Excellent. Things to take back to school and try. Inspiring

A great day talking to other D&T staff. Brilliant teaching.

Very accessible & useful to a non specialist

Really fantastic to have an affordable course on a Saturday

Thank you, I feel like I have had a spa day - all revived and raring to go!

Brilliant course - best course in content and relevance in years

I’m going away with ideas I can easily implement

Great combination of workshops. Fantastic affordable course.

Brilliant day! Loved the mix of theory and practical.

Great day. Worth the 4 hour journey.

Excellent motivation & energy in the session.

Such a positive day using a variety of materials in different ways, really great to try new things and be inspired.

Well structured & excellent delivery - an enjoyable worthwhile day. Highly recommended for networking & developing more confidence.
