What is D&T:Connect?

L IMG 1596
  • D&T:Connect events are very low cost pop up events that take place for a couple of hours after school with the aim of bringing together D&T teachers to share ideas, network and offer support. Note, this is not a Teach Meet event, as although delegates willl bring along a resource to share, the focus of the evening is delegates taking part in hands on CPD activities delivered by Paul and Julie Boyd.
  • The events are led by Julie and Paul Boyd and are held at a host school.
  • Timings will be from 4.15pm - 6.15pm (a little earlier or later for some venues depending on how long it takes local schools to travel to the venue).
  • Basic refreshments are provided (tea & coffee only).
  • As these events run at a loss they generally only take place close to where we live (Nottingham) or in areas where we have family (particularly Liverpool). It may also be possible to run one of these events in other areas the day before a one day course is taking place.

What will happen at the D&T:Connnect events?

LL IMG 9979
  • Swap Shop - delegates will be invited to bring along work to showcase although this is not compulsory More information will be given on this when delegates book but it will be completely up to you what you bring. It may be something as small as a photo of your classroom or something as big as a project outcome. Although it isn’t compulsory for delegates to share anything at the event the more that share the better the event is likely to be. Note that the event is not a Teach Meet but more of a formal CPD session so delegates will not be asked to formally present their ideas.
  • Ideas Hub L IMG 9986- this is likely to make up most of the event and will generally be formally delivered CPD content by Julie and Paul Boyd. They will share resources and ideas based on the theme of the evening. Only delegates who attend the event will receive the resources used during the session. The aim of this section of the evening is for delegates go away with ideas and resources they can use back in their classroom straight away.
  • D&T A&E - an opportunity to ask questions and get answers to queries and things worrying you. Delegates will be asked to submit questions beforehand where possible and, as time is short, these will be prioritised on the evening. We will try to answer as many questions as we can during the time available.
  • Party BagL P3040022 - everyone attending the meeting will take away a small party bag related to the theme of the event.

Who can attend a D&T:Connect event?

Places are limited and are strictly for anyone working in a secondary school D&T role e.g. teachers, technicians, teaching assistants and trainee teachers. Anyone in any other role should contact us before booking a place. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

Note only those who attend the event will receive the resources used on the day.

What delegates say about D&T:Connect

It was fantastic - practical activities with clear resources to support learning. It exceeded my expectations with quick, simple ideas that are easy to implement.

It was great to be challenged to think differently. Excellent delivery, knowledge, resources and content.

An extremely valuable workshop - lots covered in 2 hours

I thought it would just be a Teach Meet (which would have been great!) and it was a great surprise that it was a CPD session with activities and resources ready to use back in school.

Brilliant, it was great to hear about things I’d never thought of about the new spec. Lots of light bulb moments with the short activities we did.

A really helpful evening, inspirational!
