  • To develop a learning through practical work approach to delivering theory work with ideas & strategies that embed learning & maximise progression

What happens on a D&T Roadshows?

  • An informal relaxed atmosphere with a ‘light touch’ approach that focuses on hands on activities that teach theory through practical work.
  • Hands on practical activities include paper & board, metal, polymers, timber & textiles . These activities include experimental work as well as outcomes.
  • Activities, materials and equipment used during the day have been mapped against the KS3 curriculum, as well as the core content of the D&T GCSE.
  • All activities include supporting resources to enable delegates to use the ideas in their classrooms.
  • Suitable for specialists and non specialists and suitable for all D&T material areas.
  • All activities will be available for all delegates to do but individuals will have the chance to focus on those that are of particular interest and relevance to them.
  • Led by Paul & Julie Boyd who have extensive experience in education & industry.
  • The Roadshow has new content every academic year. Delegates who have attended previous Roadshows will gradually build up a portfolio of resources that compliment each other.
  • The day includes a small display of ideas & inspiration. Note the amount of type of work on display varies from venue to venue depending on what the host venue is able to provide.
  • Delegates take away materials, supporting electronic resources, prizes & goodie bags. Note that delegates have to attend the day in person to receive these resources.
  • Refreshments are provided but as this is a low cost course delegates are asked to bring their own lunch.

  • Anyone who wants support for developing an outstanding D&T curriculum at KS3 and GCSE (particularly the core content)

What does this course not include?

These points might help you identify if this is the best course to meet your needs:

  • Some D&T Roadshows (although not all) have larger numbers of delegates so there is less of a personalised approach than on many of our other courses. There should still, however, be plenty of time for individuals to ask questions & get advice.
  • The day has a ‘light touch’ focusing on hands on practical activities giving delegates the chance to experiment and develop ideas. All activities and resources are mapped against the KS3 and GCSE curriculum and are developed using evidence based teaching and learning strategies (for example, based on strategies suggested by the Education Endowment Foundation) but the hands on nature of the day means there is limited time to explain these strategies in detail. Delegates who have, however, attended any of our other courses will recognise these strategies underpinning the work done on the Roadshow.
  • Because of the low cost of this course delegates are asked to bring their own lunch. Tea & coffee will be provided.

What do delegates say about The D&T Roadshow?

D&T Roadshow copy 2

It was great - the message about multi materials was strong and inspiring.

Absolutely fantastic course, enjoyed it all and am brimming with ideas. Excited rather than concerned about delivering the materials content.

Amazing course. Love the short, sharp tasks and time to play. Loved the applying of other materials outside my experience too.

It was such a brilliant day & I’m going away feeling inspired. Really well organised day.

Really great price considering the time, materials, content and inspiration.

Exceeded my expectations. I’m buzzing with ideas to take back to my school. I’ve had a fantastic day!

The underlying message of positivity was encouraging.

[attended] as a nervous RM 'specialist' trying to get some inspiration for delivering the Textiles content of the new spec. I'm now absolutely buzzing! Well resourced and very, very useful, I'm very glad I went. If you get the chance to attend - do.

A great low cost informative course with plenty of ideas to take back to school.

It was more relevant to me as a non specialist Product Design teacher than I expected.

Lots of ideas and opportunity to actually use them.

Really fantastic to have an affordable course on a Saturday.

Great combination of workshops. Fantastic affordable course.

Made me feel more confident with those pesky bits of the curriculum! So many links and ways to combine materials. I was worried about levers and mechanisms but now I have textiles equipment examples which will help me explain things.
