Dates for your diary

The summer is a great time for visiting the large number of shows and exhibitions that are held at this time.

The New Designers graduate exhibition held in the Business Design Centre in Islington in London is a great place for a day out. It showcases the best graduates across a range of craft and design areas and is the place to see inspirational and innovative work that will fire you up to go away and design and make things yourself.  It is split into different categories over a 2 week period from 27th June – 7th July. For more information visit http://www.newdesigners.com/

I have visited the New Designers exhibition a lot myself and find it truly inspirational. The variety of ideas on show are exceptional and I always come away feeling really fired up and full of new ideas. It also reminds me of my own time studying and all the preparation for the end of year exhibitions.

While in London why not take in a few other exhibitions and inspirational venues such as  the V&A which still has its ball gown exhibition on – find out more at http://www.vam.ac.uk/content/exhibitions/ballgowns/ . London itself is inspirational whether it be just looking at all the stuff you can’t afford in the designer shops or the architecture and surroundings from old buildings like Big Ben, to new ones like the Gherkin and Shard or more peaceful areas around the river and parks (the picture at the top of this post is of one of the shop fronts in Camden). I lived in London some years ago for over 10 years and there is no UK city like it for the variety of ideas and inspiration at every turn. Take your camera and notebook as you are sure to need them!
