Knitting & Stitching Show & seeing the work of Pauline Burbidge

If like me you missed the Knitting and Stitching Show at Alexandra Palace in London last weekend don’t forget you can still catch it in Dublin from 1st – 4th November and in Harrogate from 22nd – 25th November. I used to live in London for many years and went to the show quite a bit as it was close to where we were living. The market stall areas were always great for seeing a huge range of materials and components for all sorts of textiles crafts but the bit I always liked best were the exhibitions. It is always a real inspiration looking at the work and ideas of others and that section of the show never ceased to make me want to go home and make something or try out new things.

The Knitting and Stitching Show at Harrogate also has the added bonus of having the famous quilter Pauline Burbidge who has an exhibition and lecture at the event that is not featured at any of the other venues for the show. You can also see a selection of Pauline’s quilts at the York Quilt Museum and Gallery until the beginning of December. You can also find out more about Pauline by visiting her website http://www.paulineburbidge-quilts.com/index.php . You can see and hear Pauline talking about her work in 2009 at the following link http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=148052859362

I first came across Pauline’s quilt work many years ago and was fascinated by her use of colour and pattern often to create intricate patterns that often have a 3D quality about them. As I mentioned in my blog last week colour and pattern are of particular interest to me and I have always found her work inspirational. Indeed when I first saw her work I went onto produce several quilts inspired by her techniques.
