Cu-Beam Duo Light

The Cu-Beam suspended lighting uses heat pipe technology where heat is transferred away from the light source and dissipated along the light’s ‘wings’. This allows the use of single, high power light sources, which in turn allows more accurate optical control. In addition precisely calculated optical geometry directs light where it is needed, along with the ability to adapt the light output depending on where it is being used and what the user is doing. 


  • Investigate the Cu-Beam Duo light in more detail. What are the advantages of the light?
  • The Cu-Beam Duo is a ceiling light. Evaluate the task lighting made by Dyson that uses similar technology. How is it different?
  • Dyson is known as being a company who thinks differently and who looks at the technologies used elsewhere and applies them in different contexts. How might this lighting technology be used to inspire other types of non lighting products?

    Teachers: Why not use this as a lesson starter?
