Function over form (or form follows function)

Let’s Learn

  • The company was created by twin brothers Antony and Richard Joseph in 2003 and sells a range of award winning homeware. Antony graduated in Product Design at Central St. Martins whilst Richard graduated in Industrial Design at Loughborough University and both worked for various design companies before setting up on their own together. The company began after their father asked them to help out at the family glass company which made toughened glass products and this led to the development of the glass chopping boards that are still part of their range. From there they turned their attention to designing other everyday products looking in particular at products they felt didn’t function effectively.
Joseph Joseph
  • The Joseph Joseph philosophy is to focus on function rather than decoration with the belief that if a design works well it will also look right. Because of this aesthetics are only thought about at the end of the design process and these are mostly in the form of small changes.  'Innovation is at the heart of everything we do at Joseph Joseph, that’s why we make it our aim to identify everyday problems and solve them by designing functional solutions.’  Antony & Richard Joseph
  • Antony and Richard conduct a lot of research to identify problems that need solving, working with users to evaluate existing products and their strengths and weaknesses. All ideas and developments are modelled and tested including the use of 3D printing.
